Remember the post I shared a couple of weeks ago about Ashlee Wells Jackson and the 4th Trimester Bodies Project? Well, she’s encountering some serious flack from Facebook and Instagram for posting her photos, which often include tasteful shots of breastfeeding mothers. Understandably, Ashlee has gotten very frustrated about the whole ordeal, and her attempts to get the social media networks to rethink their positions have been unsuccessful.

Ashlee has declared today a social media action day for the project, and she’s asking us to call out the networks for censoring her work. Here’s how you can help:

  • Sign the Change.org petition asking Facebook and Instagram to reinstate the 4th Trimester Bodies Project’s accounts.
  • Give the link to the petition out on all your social networks and encourage folks to sign: http://chn.ge/1gyhgSs
  • Share Ashlee’s image (pictured below) on your social networks. Use it as your profile or cover photo, tweet it, post it to Facebook–the whole nine yards. Ashlee has given permission for you to snag it to use wherever you’d like to help spread the word.
  • Use the hashtags #4thTrimesterBodiesProject, #BringBackAshleeD, and #StopCensoringMotherhood on your posts. Let’s get this trending!

This is such an important project–not just to me personally, but for women all over the world who struggle with their body images after birth, and for mamas and babies who could benefit from the normalization of breastfeeding. Not only that, but protecting Ashlee’s project sets a precedent against censoring future artistic endeavors that celebrate all the wonderful things about motherhood.

Let’s help Ashlee stick it to these networks and get her accounts back up and running so that she can reach as many people as possible with her work!
